The Arjuna Award, officially known as Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, is the second-highest sporting accolade of India, the highest being the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. One of the protagonists of the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic Mahabharata, Arjuna, is honored with this prize.He has been seen as a representation of diligence, focus, and hard work in Hinduism.Every year, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports bestows this honor. Cricketer Mohammed Shami Among Arjuna Awardees

Cricketer Mohammed Shami was conferred with the the Arjuna Award, India's second highest sporting award for his exploits at the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023.

The best athletes in the nation received the prestigious National Sports Awards from President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, January 9, in a lavish ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.



This year's other notable athletes who have been nominated for the Arjuna award are para-archer Sheetal Devi, who won two gold medals at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Due to a rare condition known as phocomelia, she is the first para-archer in the world to be without upper limbs.




The Arjuna Award was also won by wrestler Antim Panghal, a former junior world champion and bronze medallist at the Asian Games, and boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, who finished third in the global championship last year.
